Post update: After being open for many years Pepin finally has been closed.
Pepin is one of the places to host Latin night in the valley for the longest time. Many venues come and go but Pepin seems to be the permanent fixture on the salsa scene. It is more of a Latin night rather than a salsa venue. They do play salsa songs now and then, however a lot of the songs are merengue. Located in the old town Scottsdale Pepin has two Latin nights a week, Friday and Saturday. Saturday night is more popular and brings more people. Social dancing starts at 10pm and the crowd shows up at 11pm. The dance floor is fairly small and when it does get busy, there is not a lot of room for dancing.

I have friends that go to Pepin every Saturday and they enjoy it. Most of them bring their own ear plugs, as the volume of the music is less then optimal.
Last time I was there on Saturday the place was crowded, there were a lot of friendly people and everyone seemed to have a good time. Music was mostly merengue, with some bachata, very few songs of salsa, and a mix of some Latin music I could not put the name on.
