Sunday salsa lesson overview
Fat Cat Ballroom and Dance Company has a beginner/intermediate group salsa lesson every Sunday. The beginner class starts at 7 pm. Then it slowly transitions into the intermediate lesson, which ends at 8 pm.
The intermediate patterns are usually fairly simple. Because of that, this night works well for people who are just starting to learn salsa. The lessons are oriented more toward beginner dancers than advanced intermediate dancers.
Class and social dancing
The crowd is older, and there are many regulars. Everyone is also very nice. After the intermediate salsa lesson, there is a social dance. That gives students a chance to practice what they learned during class.
Usually, the people who took the class stay for the social. Not many people come in only for the social part.
Miguel, the instructor, is experienced and friendly. He is originally from Mexico. His simple patterns and the friendly crowd make Fat Cat a good place for someone just starting to learn salsa.
I was a regular at Fat Cat for about my first four months of dancing. During that time, I always enjoyed going there every Sunday.
Cost and age details
The social alone costs $5. The lesson and social together cost $10. There is no minimum age to get in.
