Paragon is located at 931 E Elliot Rd #101, Tempe, AZ 85284.
Salsa venue overview:
It is a very nice dance studio that has plenty of space and it can hold easily probably up to 100 people at one time. During the week they teach and have social events for different type of dances. Sunday is the salsa night. Very good salsa instructors teach there making it fun and easy to learn.
The cost for the salsa lesson and the social is $10. If you can produce a student ID it is $8. It is $5 just for the social. Parking lot is very large and it is never out of parking spaces. There is no age minimum to get in.
Salsa lesson:
The salsa lesson starts at 7 pm. There is a 10 minute warm up for everyone that consist of basic salsa moves and after that the class is broken in the beginner and the intermediate group. (The night the picture above was taken, this was the beginner group). Salsa class is taught “on two” and it is an hour long. Salsa lessons at Paragon are very popular and always get decent number of people.
Social dancing:
Social part of the night starts at 8 pm. On a Sunday night at Paragon people of all ages show up for the class and the social with about fifty percent of the crowd comprised of college students.
About the host of this salsa venue:
Originally started by Shawn Sallee in 2005, this night is currently hosted by one of the best dance instructors in Phoenix Larry Garcia. On the picture above he is guy in the yellow t shirt showing the moves from the pattern to the intermediate group. When the lesson is over he takes the place of the DJ. During the social dancing he plays mostly salsa music with some bachata and cha-cha in between salsa songs. Larry started teaching group salsa lessons a couple years ago and he pretty much took over the salsa classes in the valley. I can not think of a salsa venue where Larry is not being invited as a guest salsa instructor. Currently he hosts two salsa nights a week. One at Paragon Dance Center on Sunday and the other on Tuesday at Elks Lodge in Scottsdale where he teaches salsa on 2, or mambo style. You can learn more about Larry Garcia and his Tuesday salsa night by reading the blog post about his dance company Mambo Exquisite.
For the group salsa lesson Paragon is the best place to go on a Sunday night for both beginner and intermediate dancers.
